The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich is probably the best-known university in Switzerland and secures one of the top positions in the global ranking of universities on a regular basis. It has produced 21 Nobel Prize winners who went on to be engaged as professors, such as the physicist Albert Einstein. Founded in 1855 as the Swiss Federal Polytechnic, ETH is primarily dedicated to the technical, mathematical and scientific fields.

It currently has about 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled, and employs 565 professors. ETH Zurich has a location in Singapore, established in 2010,
and conducts research on the sustainable development of cities and their infrastructures with the Centre for Global Environmental Sustainability SEC.
